In addition to weekly rehearsals and two main concerts, members of our ensembles have the opportunity to participate in the following activities:
Performance Lab: An opportunity for every student to perform a solo to gain confidence in performing and get positive feedback. All students, both those listening and those performing, will learn about topics such as efficient and effective practice habits, preparing for lessons, preparing for performance, and dealing with performance anxiety.
Masterclass Series: Students may request to perform for Masterclasses by contacting their Director. As many students as possible will be asked to perform yet all students will benefit from listening to the comments about the music for each piece. For the Fall 2020 Term, the Masterclass Series was held online via Zoom. Our Masterclass teachers for Fall 2020 were as follows:
David Premo - Associate Principal Cellist, Pittsburgh Symphony
Renee Banks - United States Marine Corps Band
Jody Gatwood - Professor Emeritus, Catholic University of America

CCYO Concerto Competition: Winner will perform solo with the CCYO in addition to an honorarium. Second and third place winners will get honorariums and performance opportunities. Competition is open only to current CCYO members. Additional information can be found here.
Chamber Music Camp: An intense virtual camp culminating in a live chamber music performance.
Davies Concert Series: Preconcert Performance by members of all CCYO Ensembles.
Sectional Rehearsals: Professional coaches lead each section in specific work on their parts.
Fiddling at the Fair: String players (CCYO or Encore Strings) perform fun fiddle tunes at the Charles County Fair! This is a fun opportunity for students to play with the skills they've learned in front of an audience.
String Mentor Day: String players (CCYO or Encore Strings) have a pizza party after Encore Strings rehearsal, then work side-by-side with fifth grade beginning students. They help them learn note reading and good technique. At the end of the session, the perform a piece so the younger kids can see what they might sound like in another year or two!
Christmas Carols at the Kris Kringle Marketplace: We celebrate the holiday season with easy (and beautiful) carols at the Kris Kringle Marketplace event at the Charles County Fairgrounds, hosted by the Charles County Arts Alliance.
Fundraiser at Chick-Fil-A: This is not only an opportunity to raise money for our organization, but also a chance for students to play solos or small ensembles in a stress free environment.
Arts Fest in La Plata: Strings play fiddle tunes and the band plays their concert pieces in a final public performance for the season.
