Additional Opportunities

 

In addition to weekly rehearsals and two main concerts, members of our ensembles have the opportunity to participate in the following activities:

Independence Day / Alumni Reunion Concert: All groups perform at the Alice Ferguson Foundations' outdoor pavilion preceded by a potluck dinner and followed by viewing the fireworks across the river at Mt. Vernon. CCYO Alumni are welcomed back to perform with us.

Holiday Music at the Kris Kringle Marketplace and at the Port Tobacco Courthouse: We celebrate the holiday season with easy (and beautiful) carols and other seasonal music. See our Events Calendar for details.

ArtsFest : Annual outdoor concert in June for all groups in a final public performance for the season.

 

Masterclass Series: Students may request to perform for Masterclasses by contacting their director. As many students as possible will be asked to perform yet all students will benefit from listening to the comments about the music for each piece. Past Masterclass teachers were: 
     David Premo - Associate Principal Cellist, Pittsburgh Symphony
     Renee Banks - Saxophone, United States Marine Corps Band

     Andrew Wilson - Trumpet, US Army Band

     Glenn Paulson - Percussion, St. Mary's College of Maryland
     Jody Gatwood - Professor Emeritus, Catholic University of America
     Paula Akbar - First Violin, National Symphony Orchestra
     Jeff Silberschlag- Director of Music, St. Mary’s College of Maryland

​CCYO Concerto Competition: The winner will perform solo with the CCYO in addition to receiving an honorarium. The competition is open only to current CCYO, Encore Band, and Encore Strings members. Additional information can be found here.
 

Chamber Music Festival: Two one-week sessions of coaching and rehearsals culminating in a performance at Christ Church, La Plata. More information can be found here.

​Performances at Galas and Local Events: CCYO students perform at local galas such as for the Alice Ferguson Foundation, Maryland Food Bank, Maryland Veterans Museum, the Children’s Environmental Health Network and for events such as the Charles County Arts Alliance Annual Meeting, the Moyaone Reserve Homes Tour, and Nature Fest.

Chesapeake Choral Arts Society: CCYO string players perform with the Chesapeake Choral Arts Society at their annual Messiah performances.​Sectional Rehearsals: Professional coaches lead each section in specific work on their parts.
